Database is going online

Hello all,

I will be posting the GSUS database on this website within the next few days.  I hope that this will allow for better access to the journal information.

GSUS congratulates the Glendon students involved in the Bonobo Human Discourse Research Group at Glendon under the supervision of professors Bill Greaves and Jim Benson. The team is going to Des Moines, Iowa to continue their research.

For the 2009-2010 academic year, the team included five student participants, some paid and some volunteers: 2nd-year undergraduates Charlotte Petrie, Maria Wong, Laura Guecha and Meng Yang, as well as 4th -year undergraduate, Lidia Giosa – who has been accepted into a PhD program for speech pathology at the University of Louisiana, partly as a result of her participation in this project. Two additional participants are recent Glendon graduate Daniel Byrnes, who has continued to work on the project since graduating, and mature student Bruce Anderson.

The value of research and faculty-student cooperation is invaluable to the success of Glendon students. All the best to Lidia Giosa in her Ph.D programme.

The John Hopkin’s University Undergraduate Journal of History, Fondations is accepting submissions throughout the summer for publication in the Autumn 2010 issue. Foundations has been in print since 2005 and is very well supported by the Department of History at JHU. They published every Spring and Autumn, so papers not meeting the Autumn deadline can be submitted for the Spring issue.

Contact us for more details.

Aporia’s deadline for submissions is 11 April 2010 for publication in the May 2010 volume.

Aporia is a 70-page print publication passionate about lively philosophical discourse. Aporia publishes academic articles, interviews, discussions, and book reviews that fall within the traditional domain of philosophy. Founded in 2006, Aporia has since published undergraduates, graduates, and postgraduates; we are committed to publishing quality writing regardless of education level. Aporia is edited and funded by the St Andrews Philosophy Society.

Here is the basic info. Contact for more information on manuscript guidelines

1. Submissions must be received by 11 April 2010.

2. Articles should lie between 1500-6000 words; book reviews should lie between 500-2000 words. Longer/shorter articles may still be considered.

The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Undergraduate Math Journal has announced their submission deadline for the Spring edition: September 15, 2010. Contact us for details.

Pixel: The Cambridge Undergraduate Journal of Development Economics has announced their submission deadline for the 2010-2011 volume: September 1, 2010.

I just added the Harvard Review of Philosophy to the database after receiving information from their editorial board today. This is really exciting news for philosophy majors. This journal has been in print for almost twenty years and is distributed to over 1000 institutions and philosophers around the world. They publish every Fall, with their submission deadline at the end of February. I encourage all philosophy students to aim for publication in the Harvard Review or another of the prestigious journals in print for undergraduates.

I have just added the Indiana Undergraduate Journal of Cognitive Science to our database. They just published the Winter 2010 volume which looks really interesting. This journal is very well managed and has consistently released volumes since 2006. Psychology and Linguistics majors should keep an eye on this one for 2010/2011. Maybe sift through the archives to see what types of articles they like to publish.

Students in the psychology department will be getting this email later this week. For everyone else, I will post it here as well.

The Canadian Undergraduate Journal of Cognitive Science has extended their Call for Papers to April 4th, 2010 to be published in the Summer 2010 Issue. If you have a paper that you wish to be published, please contact The Glendon Society for Undergraduate Scholarship for more information.

This is a really important journal in Canada. It is one of the oldest and has remained very active since its inception in 2002. There are not that many psychology journals around compared to other disciplines, so I encourage all students with papers in cognitive sciences to contact us for submission details.
